Viet(****ing)Nam 2013
In conjunction with our journey to Cambodia, Ryan and I also went to Vietnam. Unfortunately the only time we were able to go to Vietnam was during the typhoon season. So we carefully planned our trip to go to the areas that would be the least affected. So the south of Vietnam was the main point of interest. I would have loved to be able to see the mountainous north or the UNESCO sites like Halong Bay, but I guess we will just have to save that adventure for another time. Anyway, back to our journey. After we left Sihanoukville, Cambodia, we took a minivan to Vietnam and then a ferry to our destination--Phu Quoc. Phu Quoc, and well Vietnam in general, is amazing! Luckily we ended our holiday on a good note. We enjoyed our final days renting a motor bike and cruising through the island. We enjoyed the finest oriental cuisine that Asia has to offer. Yup, I said it. Vietnam wins in the category of Asian gastronomy. When we ventured through the Night Market we feasted on suburb lobster, the best garlic bread I've ever had in my life, and delicious deserts. The locals we so generous and kind and I couldn't have asked for better hospitality. After we said our farewells to Phu Quoc, we boarded a plane at the local airport and flew to Ho Chi Minh City. We only had a day and a half in HCMC, but I think we soaked up all the extravagant chaos that the city had to offer. The rushing whirl of motor bikes, the calm dinner cruise on the Saigon River, the eclectic war and historical museums, everything on the tourist map--check. Man we are GOOD!
