Christmas in hong kong 2012
Well ladies and gentlemen, now begins a tale that stars two amazing young people and their journey to Hong Kong and Macau...
It was Christmas time in 2012 and freezing in Korea. Knowing that the weather in Hong Kong was supposed to be miraculous, we decided to opt out of bring our down jackets with us in commute to the airport. It was a cold journey to the airport, but once we stepped off that flight and realized we were in Hong Kong, nothing else mattered.

Knowing that the weather in Hong Kong was supposed to be miraculous, we decided to opt out of bring our down jackets with us in commute to the airport. It was a cold journey to the airport, but once we stepped off that flight and realized we were in Hong Kong, nothing else mattered.
We were fortunate enough to get in contact with a couple CouchSurfers prior to our departure. Our hostess, local Honky (as they are deemed), Agnes, and her roommate, German-born and Honky-acclaimed, Stephen, were so generous in allowing us to stay with them during our entire week in Hong Kong. They took us hiking on a trail appropriately named the Dragon's Backbone, feasted on delicious dim-sum (and even chicken's feet!) with us, and provided supreme entertainment as we grilled up some BBQ on top of their roof while overlooking the incredible Hong Kong skyline during Christmas dinner. In addition to our time with our hosts, we also took a ferry to another island called Cheung Chau. There we met a local who was a professor in Hong Kong and he gave us a supreme tour of the island and showed us an amazing pirate's cave. It was an experience that I will never forget. We enjoyed Hong Kong so much, we were even tempted to search for jobs while there--which we found out are amazing!--until we realized that the summers in Hong Kong are hot...VERY hot. Now that's not saying that I've ruled it out completely, Hong Kong was a great experience, and I would be very fortunate to return there again, but humid and hot weather can be a major downgrade. Having many locals showing us around definitely made our trip what it was. I would definitely suggest using couchsurfing.org as a way to save money, as well as a way to get in contact with the locals and learn the lifestyle of any country or city that you visit.
