Colorado/Utah road trip 2013
Now that I am unemployed and living a life at home, I began to find myself going stir crazy. After traveling and working nonstop for a year it has been great to relax and enjoy the simplicity of begin in my own bed in Colorado, but after some time has passed, I soon realized that I need to get back on the road. Ryan and I leave for Spain at the end of September, so we decided to do a classic American road trip. I wish I could say that we traveled from coast to coast, but we needed to save money for Europe so we decided to do a camping road trip excursion with a couple of friends that we worked with in South Korea (Alex and Janelle).
Our trip consisted of a scenic route that stopped at some amazing National Parks throughout southern Colorado and Utah. We began by heading to the Great Sand Dunes National Park. While at the park we witnessed the largest natural sand dunes in North America. After we continued to Durango where we stayed with two of our friends that we met while we lived in Gunnison working at Crested Butte Resort. After enjoying the town and the local breweries, we headed to Mesa Verde National Park. We went on an amazing guided tour that brought us directly in contact with the Ancient Puebloan ruins. It was remarkable to see such masonry built into the caves. I would definitely recommend anyone in the area to visit this park. After talking to a ranger, we also learned that the buildings are slowly sliding out of the canyon so visit them quickly!
After Mesa Verde, we ventured to Utah where we visited Canyonlands National Park, Moab, and Arches National Park. We camped out in some amazing destinations, woke up at sunrise to capture some incredible photos, and witnessed all of natures wrath first hand. When we returned back to Colorado we visited Black Canyon National Park and resided at my grandparents' condo in Gunnison before returning to Pueblo.
Needless to say it was a delightful trip that really made me appreciate America more than I already do. Of course I have been very fortunate to be able to travel all over the world, but there are diverse landscapes all over America, and for that I will always be proud to be an American--but most of all a Coloradan.
