Fiji Islands 2010
During my time abroad, I also traveled to the Fiji Islands. I went on this journey with one of my best friends, Emily, and two of our friends that we met at university, Paul and Craig. We went to Mana Island, the main island, and Beachcomber Island. The four of us truly had an amazing time venturing through Fiji. We laughed, we drank, and most of all we created memories that will last a lifetime. It was an amazing week island hopping. I wish we could have stayed longer, but with 322 islands that make up the country of Fiji, we would have needed about a year to hit every inch of it. I think we covered a good portion of it though.
Our initial stay in Nadi was an excellent departure point. We stayed at a great hostel and relaxed there for our first day. We had our first crack at the local Fiji Bitter beer as well as the local drink of choice--vodka and Tabasco. It was a rough next morning, but after some serious motivation we took a little speed boat to a nearby island called Mana Island. This little island was directly next to the beach where the movie Cast Away was filmed. If you have never seen Cast Away, you should. Tom Hanks is amazing. Anyway, while on Mana Island we befriended a group of about seven Swedish boys who were backpacking across the world. They were such a fun bunch of guys that we decided to travel with them to Beachcomber Island for the remainder of our trip. We participated in a "cross-dressing" party, that was beyond hilarious (pictures documented below), went snorkeling, played so much volleyball that my arms were covered in bruises, and just relaxed on the amazing beaches. We almost decided to just skip our flight back to university and just say we were stranded in Fiji. That sounds believable right? Yeah...we didn't think so either.
